According to research published by PC World Business almost a quarter of small British businesses are either using or trialing tablets such as Blackberry Playbook or Apple’s iPad 2 in efforts to increase productivity in the workplace.
1,200 UK SME business leaders were included in the research and 61% of them said they use or would use tablets for catching up on emails or for working whilst on the move. More than 1/3 also use tablets for taking notes in meetings and during informal presentations to clients.
Phil Birbeck, Managing Director, PC World Business: “There’s been a wave of new tablets released recently which is clearly being embraced by Britain’s tech savvy small businesses.”
The majority, over three quarters of those using tablets are senior level management, directors and CEOs.
This obviously has an impact in terms of the way SMEs do business but there are other things to consider with the move towards tablet technology.
SMEs need to make sure that their websites are compatible with tablet technology; that they both be viewed in the proper format and fully utilised from tablets. SMEs should also consider how they can “jump on the bandwagon” and take advantage of this surge in tablet use. Why not develop an App?
Make your business stand out to the powerful people within organisations. Make it easier for them to not only find out about and communicate with you, also to purchase products or utilise services via their iPad 2 or Playbook.
Moreover, once a user has gone to the trouble of downloading a businesses’ app, its icon on their device serves as a persistent ad, keeping it top-of-mind.
